II EURASIAN WOMEN'S SUMMIT STARTED IN ASTANA

The II Eurasian Women Summit has started its work in Astana today, Kazinform reports.

The event was opened by President of Kazakhstan Businesswomen Association Raushan Sarsembayeva. She remembered that the I summit was held two years ago and gathered more than 400 participants from Kazakhstan and 20 countries of the world.

The theme of the summit “Progress through diversity” was not chosen occasionally, R. Sarsembayeva noted. She called the women to become promoters of the most progressive reforms.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev sent a welcome letter to the attendees of the forum. “It is impossible to overestimate contribution of Kazakhstani women to the country’s development, strengthening of spirituality of the society and bringing up of the younger generation,” the letter reads.

Over 400 women – leaders of public, political, business circles of Kazakhstan, Russia, Germany, Latvia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and other countries – are taking part in the summit. Special Adviser to the UN Sec Gen on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women Rachel Mayanja, Chairwoman of the Fund of the First Kazakhstan President Dariga Nazarbayeva, Bundestag deputy Wegener Hedi, Presidents of the Businesswomen Associations of Latvia and Uzbekistan Irina Petersone and Dildor Alimbekov are among the high guests.

Master-classes on leadership, financial welfare and resources management are to be organized within the summit.

The two-day summit will end with a ceremony of awarding the laureates of “Azhar” National Premium for public recognition of Kazakhstani women’s achievements republican contest. 100 women will be chosen by 10 nominations. Their names will be included into the “Chronicles of the achievements of the country’s women”. The 10 best participants will be awarded with “Azhar” diplomas and statuettes.
