NEWS 20 December 2005 UNDP ASSISTS WOMEN'S COMMITTEE TO IMPROVE ICT SKILLS Trainings to increase knowledge and skills of the Women's Committee in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) started on 1 December 2005, the UNDP Tashkent office said in its press release on 19 December. The trainings are aimed at developing skills of the employees of the central and regional Women's Committees in the use of information technologies in their work and thus increase effectiveness of information exchange within the Committee and with other governmental and public organizations through Internet, the release said. During the training participants enhanced not only their general understanding of the operating system and office applications, but also aquired expertise in the professional use of e-mail and Internet research. Interactive one-on-one training method was very effective and gave an opportunity to adapt delivered information to the level of knowledge in ICT of each participant. The UNDP said in its release that training for the central Women's Committee was conducted by the specialists and Volunteers of the UNDP project on "ICT Policy". In the frames of the UNDP project on "Capacity Building of the Women's Committee" the central and regional offices of the Women's Committee were provided with IT equipment, including equipment for Local Area Network with the aim to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the work practices. The project is also intended to strenghen the capacity of the Women's Committee to conduct policy dialogue and provide policy advice to the key stakeholders on gender equality and empowerment of women in Uzbekistan.
