UN REPORT ON ELIMINATION OF ALL FORMS OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN

Tajikistan will report to UN on fulfilling of obligations under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms Discrimination Against Women, UN News Center reported.

On Monday, 15 January, the Committee on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women 37th will hold its thirty-seventh session at the UN Headquarter in New York, which will look at the periodic reports of UN members on the implementation of the Convention. To date it has 185 members or almost 90% of all UN member states.

The upcoming session will consider reports from 15 countries including the initial report of Tajkistan and periodic reports of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

Pre-session working group having considered the written report of Kazakhstan have asked the country authorities to provide additional information, in particular, on the state of work on the draft law on domestic violence and representation of women in judicial bodies including information on the number of women at different levels of justice system compared with the number of men.

The request for the additional information on the scope of violence against women including domestic violence was made also to Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.

KAZAKHSTAN TO SUBMIT REPORT ON WOMEN DISCRIMINATION IN NEW YORK

The 37th session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women opened in New York on Monday, January 15, Kazinform reports.

During the session the representatives of 15 countries are expected to submit national reports regarding the measures they have taken to comply with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) obligations.

Aitkul Samakova, the chairperson of the Kazakh National Commission for Family Affairs and Gender Policy under the President of Kazakhstan, is going to submit the report today.

CEDAW established back in 1982 consists of 185 UN member states.
